The Gift of Forgiveness

Betrayal is perhaps the greatest insult in a relationship. Betrayal steals our sense of security by breaking our trust. The sting of betrayal is perhaps one of the most debilitating emotions anyone can experience.  So how can we get over the pain of betrayal?

A Place in the Heart is a heartfelt story about the sting of betrayal and the gift of forgiveness. It’s a story of how a man finds his true love in unexpected circumstances.

Nathan comes home during spring break to propose to her high school sweetheart Sharon only to discover that she had fallen in love with his best friend Jeremiah. The emotional devastation being so great consumes Nathan with anger and hatred.

Heartbroken, Nathan moves to Angler Island, but circumstances compel Nathan to return to Shelton Harbor. He lives with his grandmother and begins falling for Amanda (Jeremiah’s sister and his grandmother’s caregiver).  It is then that Nathan comes to a crossroads and needs to choose whether to hold on to his resentment or forgive his former best friend and girlfriend and move on.

Because of pains you may be tempted to alienate yourself to others, but don’t.  Instead, surround yourself with those who know and love you best, who will encourage you and restore your trust. And that’s where A Place in the Heart is all about.  With the help of Amanda and his grandmother, Nathan learns to forgive and allow God to work in his life.

Withholding of forgiveness hurts us more than those who hurt us.  Holding on to resentment deprives us from enjoying present life.  But, we overcome the pains of betrayal by surrendering them to God.  “Casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you.” 1 Peter 5:7

It takes a lot of courage and the grace of God to really forgive. But to forgive those who betrayed us delivers us from the bondage of sorrows.  When we forgive those who caused us pains, we really offer ourselves a gift— a change of heart, a new beginning.
