7 Things To Be Thankful And Grateful For In Life

Sometimes we tend to overlook the most precious things in life because we are busy thinking of the things that we want or the things that we don’t have, such as building your dream house, buying a new car and other material things. But, as a Christian, being contented with what we have is the secret to a peaceful and happy life, and instead of focusing on the things that we don’t have, we should take a look and be thankful for all the precious things that God has given us.

Here are some things that you should be grateful for this Thanksgiving and every day in your life.

Your parents and grandparents.

“Grandchildren are the crown of the aged, and the glory of children is their fathers.” – Proverbs 17:6

You should be grateful for your parents because without them you couldn’t have been born in this world. Thank God because He used your parents to be a vessel to give you life. Be thankful for your mother because she carried you in her womb for nine months and she loves you unconditionally. “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” – Psalm 139:13-14. Also, be thankful for your father for providing and supporting your needs when you were young. “As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him.” – Psalm 103:13. Thus, not all of us have a living grandparent nowadays, so be grateful to your grandparents as well because you have the opportunity to spend time with them. This Thanksgiving is also the best time to express your gratitude to them bysending cards or giving gifts — tell them how grateful you are for having them in your life.

Your sibling/s.

“If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen.” – 1 John 4:20

Even if you and your siblings have differences and didn’t get along well all the time. Thank them for giving you the best childhood experience such as being your playmate and best friend. “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!” – Psalm 133:1. You can always count on your siblings and they can be your greatest cheerleader when you need them the most.

Your spouse.

“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other.” – Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

Your spouse is one of the greatest blessings that you can have — they are your lifetime partner, friend, lover and they will stick with you through thick and thin. So, thank God for them and appreciate them every day. Express your love to your wife or husband by giving them simple present such as jewelry, book, a Bible for Women, apparel, skin care products or you can also date them in their favorite restaurant. “He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the Lord.” – Proverbs 18:22.

“Houses and wealth are inherited from parents, but a prudent wife is from the Lord.” – Proverbs 19:14

Your children.

“Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him.” – Psalm 127:3

Not everyone has the opportunity to become a parent, so thank God for giving you such a wonderful gift that become your source of happiness and strength. Thank them for allowing you be called “Mom” or “Dad” in this world. Spend time with your kids as much as possible — cook or bake together, pray together and teach them God’s Word. “He took a little child whom he placed among them. Taking the child in his arms, he said to them, Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me.” – Mark 9:36-37

Your friends.

“A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity.” – Proverbs 17:17

Having a big circle of friends is nice, but if you have a friend who you could totally trust and stay with you at all times is a great blessing. “One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.” – Proverbs 18:24. So, thank your friends for being with you all times — for listening to your jokes, story, drama and for giving you advice. Also, thank God for giving you, brothers and sisters in Christ that becomes your friend. Thus, you can also thank God for giving you a pastor that become your family, spiritual leader and great adviser. Appreciate your pastor for their hard work and for feeding you the Word of God.

Your home.

“My people will live in peaceful dwelling places, in secure homes, in undisturbed places of rest.” – Isaiah 32:18

We may not live in an elegant mansion, but we always have a home where we can find peace and comfort — so thanked God for that. He gave us a roof to become our shelter in times of storm or snow and he gave us a comfortable bed to sleep on every night. “The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.” – Matthew 7:25. Be grateful with your home and take care of it as God’s greatest blessing in your family. Filled it with the things that inspire you and always make your home warm and inviting to God’s Presence.

Your health.

“Nevertheless, I will bring health and healing to it; I will heal my people and will let them enjoy abundant peace and security.” – Jeremiah 33:6

Be grateful to God because you are alive and well — He wakes you up this morning and you are still breathing. Don’t take these things for granted every day and always thank God for giving you life and strength to fulfill your task. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” – Philippians 4:13. Glorify Him with your body and avoid things that will harm the temple of God. “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.” – 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Thus, thank God for giving you a job and for providing your needs such as food, water and your basic necessities. Having these things is a great blessing and these things are enough reason to be thankful for everyday. So, take time toreflect and thank God for giving you life’s blessing and fill your heart with gratitude and thanksgiving. Thus, God loves a grateful heart and He is pleased with it.
