5 Reasons Christians Send Greeting Cards All Year Round
“Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.” – Hebrews 13:16
We are living in a digital era and there are many electronic greeting cards or ecards that are readily available on the internet which you can send in just one click. Although these cards are special and always accessible, nothing can beat a personal and intimate handwritten or an actual card. It is also one of the best ways to make a person know that you appreciate and remember them. Thus, if you are thinking of writing a letter or an actual card but didn’t find a reason why or where to start, here are some reasons why Christians send greeting cards all year round.
To greet someone on their special day or occasions.
“For through wisdom your days will be many, and years will be added to your life.” – Proverbs 9:11
Greet your loved ones on every occasion such as Birthdays, Anniversary, Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, graduation or in their wedding day by sending them handmade or handwritten cards. Write your Birthday wish or Congratulatory message for them and let them know that you are happy for them. “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.” – 3 John 1:2. Celebrate the goodness of the Lord in their lives and tell them that you are praying for their good health, long life, strong marriage or for their bright future.
To give encouragement and motivation.
“Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:11
Send encouraging greeting cards to those people who are struggling in their life such as dealing with depression, anxiety, pain, heartbreak or loss. Tell them that they are not alone and God will them to get through it. “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” – Romans 15:13 Comfort them through your simple action and write them a Bible verse or words that will lift them up. “But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” – 2 Corinthians 12:9. Thus, remind them that God is an awesome God and will solve any of their problems. “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” – Isaiah 40:29-31
“May the Lord repay you for what you have done. May you be richly rewarded by the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge.”- Ruth 2:12
Thanksgiving is fast approaching and this is also a perfect time to send greeting cards or notes in their doorstep. Tell your loved ones, friends, pastor or church mates that you appreciate their existence in your life, you are grateful for them and they are always in your prayers. “We always thank God for all of you and continually mention you in our prayers.” – 1 Thessalonians 1:2
“May the Lord now show you kindness and faithfulness, and I too will show you the same favor because you have done this.” – 2 Samuel 2:6
To ask apology and forgiveness.
“Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.” – James 5:16
This Bible passage tells us to confess our sins to another and sending a card with apology is a perfect way to know that you are asking for forgiveness. A simple phrase such as “Sorry for what I have done.” or “Forgive me.” are the best way to show that you are sincere in your feelings. Apologize genuinely and pray that God will touch their hearts. “Strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord.” – Hebrews 12:14
To tell them that you are thinking of them.
“Every time I think of you, I give thanks to my God. Whenever I pray, I make my requests for all of you with joy, for you have been my partners in spreading the Good News about Christ from the time you first heard it until now. And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.” – Philippians 1:3-6
You can even write a card without any particular reason and one way to show that you are thinking of someone is by sending a card in their mailbox — add happiness to their lives and surprise them with a greeting cards with a simple message just saying “I’m thinking of you!” or “You are always in my prayers!”. These simple words will make them feel happy and that you really care for them. “I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers.” – Ephesians 1:16
