4 Tips to Build a Godly Home

Everyone wants their house to be warm, welcoming and beautiful. However, as a Christian, our main goal is to create a home that the Holy Spirit feels welcome and wanted.

Here are some tips to build a home that reflects God’s love and faithfulness.

Serve the Lord as a family.

Let God be the foundation and the center of your home. Talk about God and learn more of His Word by reading and studying the Bible. Read some Bible stories to your children before bedtime and make time to pray and worship together as a family. Make sure that your children will grow up in a prayer-filled home and teach them how to pray. Get up on Sundays and attend Bible studies on your church.  “As for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.”- Joshua 24:15

Fill your home with God’s Word, Command and Promises.

Be wise when choosing your home decor and surround yourself with the Word of God and the things that inspire you such as mugs, frames, Scripture artworks and other Christian themed decor or figurines. Listening to Christian music will remind you and your family of God’s Word, command and promises. Your home should be also the reflection of God’s love and faithfulness. “These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.” – Deuteronomy 6:6-9

Have an alone time with God.

Prioritize God in your daily lives and spend quality time with Him. Wake up early and start your day with a prayer.  “In everything you do, put God first, and he will direct you and crown your efforts with success.” – Proverbs 3:6

Pray for your family’s protection and guidance. Ask God to help you raise your family well. Meditate on His Word by reading the Bible and writing in your devotional journal every day. “And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed.” – Mark 1:35

Apply these verses to your children.

Cultivating your children’s faith should be your priority as a parent. Teach them God’s Way and the Truth.

  • Proverbs 22:6 – “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”
  • Colossians 3:16-17 – “Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”
  • Deuteronomy 11:18-21 – “Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates, so that your days and the days of your children may be many in the land the Lord swore to give your ancestors, as many as the days that the heavens are above the earth.”

Remember your actions and attitude have the strongest influence in your children — so, be a good example to them and always practice kindness. Create a home that is pleasing and worthy of God’s blessings.
