5 Elements of Daily Christian Living
We often hear that Christianity is a mere religion. It’s definitely not, but rather a way of life. As mentioned in the Book of James 1:22, “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” Christianity is relevant and practical in our daily lives. And desiring to have a Christian life is a good start.
Here are 5 important elements of a daily Christian living:
Prayer
“Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.” – Colossians 4:2
One of the ways to practice the presence of God is through prayer. And it’s a necessary practice as a Christian. It’s a place of admitting our needs and showing our dependence on Him. Make prayer your daily habit. It’s your daily communion with God. Tell him everything from your smallest to your biggest thanksgiving and heart’s desire for He shall listen and answer you.
Bible Reading
“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” – Psalms 1119:105
Daily devotion of the Word of God by Bible reading will establish an intimate relationship with Him. It keeps us grounded on how God’s mercy and grace work in the past. And how we see and we’ll see His works and miracles in our lives. It also reinforces all that we hear in church sermons and preaching. To better know God is the ultimate purpose of the Scripture!
Family Devotion
“…But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” – Joshua 24:15
Christianity must be lived in the home. Build a Christian home through taking your family to devotion by praying and reading His Word. Set aside a regular time daily for your family devotion, may it be after breakfast or dinner or just before bedtime. Choose the best time that works well for the whole family. Even if your schedule seems to be so hectic, make sure to have a time for family devotion to set an example to your children that God is the center of your lives and your highest priority.
Teach your Children
“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” – Proverbs 22:6
The faith that you have is totally worth sharing, especially to the ones that God has entrusted to your care, your children. A way to carry Christianity to your home is through teaching your children, making it a part your daily lives. Make them interested in the word of God, even in their young age. Use Bible materials that are age appropriate. While young kids can’t read yet, you can read them Bible story books instead of fairy tales during bedtime or watch DVDs animated collections during leisure time. And of course, don’t forget to be a good example to your children, as this is the best teaching that you can impart to them.
Do anything and everything for the Lord
And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. -Colossians 3:17
In everything you do, do it always for His name. He has made us for good works and this includes our daily task. It may seem insignificant, but your daily task, including your job or your school, grocery shopping, washing the dishes, doing the laundry and all the ordinary task that you can think of can present opportunities for doing good works for His glory. Don’t just make an ordinary day instead make every day extraordinary for God’s glory!
May we live a Christian life, not just on Sundays, but every day!
