5 Simple Tips to Strengthen Faith and Spiritual Life of Elderly
It is written in 2 Corinthians 4:16, “For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.”
In senior years, one area that needs continuous growing is the spiritual aspect. Though your body may feel weak and fragile, you are still capable of spiritual growth and renewal. You can keep growing in faith, love, joy and other spiritual gifts.
Here are 5 simple tips to strengthen your faith and spiritual life.
Read the Scripture
Do you still remember the Christian song for children that states, “Read your bible, and pray every day and you’ll grow, grow and grow!”? And yes, this song is also for you. Despite your old age, you must still read the scripture. By reading the Scripture, you will be reminded of God’s promises for you that will strengthen and renew your faith every single day. You can also memorize a scripture per day, and have it engraved in your mind and heart and use whenever you need it.
Make a journal of how He has blessed you
Go get a pen and a journal! And start to list down all the ways He has blessed you. List everything in your journal, from the smallest to the biggest ways. The facts that you woke up this morning, your health, your sight, your family, your friends, your house, your car, your laptop, your phone and so much more are something to be grateful for. Just keep writing and you will see and realize that God blesses you every day. Start and lock your day with a grateful heart!
Pray to Him
Prayer is the key. Yes, talk to Him whenever and wherever. Tell Him everything. Whatever you want to say to Him, say it in prayer, put it in writing. May it be a feeling of frustration or sadness, just tell it to Him. He is always listening. He will never get tired of listening and answering your prayers and plea. Make God the center of your life and have your strength in Him.
Circle yourself with faithful friends
Your faith can be boosted and inspired by just seeing and hearing others talk about their faith. A talk with your fellow Christian will be a great way to strengthen your spiritual life. Sharing each others’ struggles and how you’d won the battle will be a blessing for both of you. Surround yourself with faithful people to be faithful and not faithless!
Go out in nature
Try to do things that will let you appreciate and see the wonderful creations of God. Go out in nature, watch the sunrise or the sunset on your yard, watch the love birds, feel the warmth of the sun, gaze at the stars and the moon and many more that you can think of to appreciate God’s amazing creation. Sip a cup of tea or coffee while gazing the beauty of God’s creation. Feel His presence on everything He had created!
Remember that in spite of your old age, changes, losses and health conditions, you can still cultivate your relationship with God and still be the greatest warrior!
