5 Parenting Tips to Instill Faith in Our Children
As parents and guardians, we play a significant role in our children’s learning and progress. We have the privilege to speak to them powerfully into their lives and provide significant influence in shaping their character. As what the scripture says, “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” –Proverbs 22:6 (KJV).
It is our responsibility to teach our children the right values, and God has provided us directives through His Words. Therefore shall ye lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul, and bind them for a sign upon your hand, that they may be as frontlets between your eyes. And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. Deuteronomy 11:18-19 King James (KJV)
Here are parenting tips to help our kids grow spiritually and empower them with God’s Words.
1. Set a good example
As Christians, our own lived-out faith is the best model and the firm foundation in shaping our children’s faith. They are always watching us and they are learning from us, thus modeling faith through personal relationship with Jesus Christ will greatly influence them as they grow.
And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Ephesians 6:4 (KJV)
2. Create a lovely home
Literally, there is no place like home and our family and kids take refuge in a lovely home where faith, hope and love abound. Surround and decorate your home with inspirational and faith-based theme with the intention of honoring the Lord and fosters a warm and welcoming atmosphere that will make our family feel loved and secured.
And my people shall dwell in a peaceable habitation, and in sure dwellings, and in quiet resting places. Isaiah 32:18 (KJV)
3. Learn the Bible with your kids
The Bible is packed with examples of people who modeled godliness, courage, sacrificial love, obedience, trust and faith in God. Esther in particular is the Bible’s greatest heroine who saves the Jewish people with her bravery. Abraham’s obedience and trust in God is tested through Isaac. 4. Pray and worship God with your kids.
If young kids are trained wholeheartedly with conviction to pray regularly, read the bible daily and attend church consistently they are certainly more likely to continue and maintain these into adulthood. These faith practices are essential elements of a victorious and blissful Christian life.
As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. Joshua 24:15
5. Testify God’s work in your own life
Tell the stories of your triumphs and successes with your kids and celebrate with them in simple daily moments of praise and thanksgiving for His goodness and faithfulness. Pay attention on how the Lord is working in the world around you every day and make sure to point those things out to your children. Let them also share their own short stories and make them as a springboard of conversation about God’s faithfulness.
My tongue will tell of your righteous acts all day long, for those who wanted to harm me have been put to shame and confusion. Psalm 71:24
Children are blessings from the Lord and there is no greater joy than to see them growing in faith. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth. — 3 John 4 (NIV)
