Why Wearing Your Wedding Ring Really Matters

Marriage is a sacred vow between a man and a woman, a holy union of two individuals. “A man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh. So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.” – Mark 10: 6-9

Indeed, marriage is a lifetime commitment and a wedding ring symbolizes that commitment. A wedding ring is a symbol of loyalty and union between two individuals to love and cherish one another for the rest of their lives.

Here are three reasons why wearing a wedding ring really matters.

1. Wedding ring signifies that you publicly profess that you are lawfully and legally belong to someone. You are keeping vital information about your status from every stranger you meet that you are no longer available. Without uttering a word, you clearly and consistently tell everyone you meet that you are already married.  You are already off limits from exchanging looks and conversation with people who thought that you are attractive and available.

2.  Wedding ring denotes that you respect your spouse and you value your marriage. The ring bears record of your respect and faithfulness to one another. Wearing your wedding band would remind you that there is someone who is counting on your faithfulness and loyalty as you have promised on your wedding day.  So always wear your wedding ring as much as possible.

3. Wedding ring symbolizes commitment and responsibility. It is a visible and constant reminder that you are always by his/her side through thick or thin, in sickness or in health, until death separates you. It reminds you that you give all that you are and ever hope to be. In other words, wedding ring signifies selfless love and loyalty.

Wedding rings have existed since ancient times and would never ever be outdated as a symbol of lifelong ownership, an emblem of everlasting love for married couples.  While the design of wedding rings is becoming more modern and sophisticated nowadays, the symbol and meaning of the ring is as strong as it’s ever been.
