Wondering With What If…

The decisions we make today impact our future.  We only live once, and if we make the right choice according to God’s perfect will, once is enough and we don’t need to wonder with the question, “What if…”  We have the confidence that God is in full control.

I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until that day. 2 Timothy 1:12

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thy own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy path.  Proverbs 3:5-6

In the film What If, contrary to Ben Walker’s original plan to marry his college sweetheart and to follow God’s calling (to become a preacher), he chose a different direction to pursue a very rewarding business opportunity, fifteen years ago.

Ben becomes a successful and rich business executive, with a luxury car and a trophy fiancé.  Overwhelmed with material things he didn’t consider to share his wealth with a family (kids) and not even think to set his foot in a church for fifteen long years.  He has forgotten his first love- God and Wendy (Kristy Swanson).

What profits a man if he gains the whole world, but loses his own soul.  Mark 8:36

Those who trust in their riches will fall, but the righteous will thrive like a green leaf. Proverbs 11:28

But God has another plan.  God allows Ben to see a glimpse of his alternate reality.   While in his joy ride outside of the city, his car mysteriously breaks down. Mike (John Ratzenberger ), an angel sent from God disguises as an auto mechanic brings Ben to life’s experience of what if he pursued his original route.  In his what if reality, he is married to Wendy and they have two daughters and he is a pastor.  He finds real joy and success in serving the Lord with his family and community. He discovers the true richness of life—God and family.

Indeed, What If is a fascinating story of a man who chose the different direction in contrary to his original life’s plan, but  God through his angel shows  him the more fulfilling life in his what if reality. What If is filled with drama and hilarious scenes.  It will make you cry and laugh.  It is a film for the whole family.

God allows us to make our own choosing, but each alternative has each own consequence.  This is where it becomes extremely crucial to trust and rely on God’s Word.

The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholdeth him with his hand.  Psalm 37:23-24

Those who know your name trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you. Psalm 9:10
